Abstract: A wireless ad hoc network doesnot rely on a pre existing infrastructure but operates in a distributed manner where all the nodes have equal statusand associate with each other dynamically, participating in routing by forwarding data for other nodes. It suits a variety of applications where central nodes are not accessible and the network needs to be dynamically deployed with scalability. In this talk, I will describe three kinds of wireless ad hoc networks, namely wireless mesh networks, wireless sensor networks, and vehicular ad hoc networks. Major research issues and challenges will be discussed. I will also introduce our works on developing platforms and applications for the three kinds of ad hoc networks.
